Research Objectives
The object of the project is development of basic technology of process control for the production of useful compounds by higher plants using recombinant DNA technology, based on the analysis of metabolic pathway and the controlling.
Outline of the Research
œ Identification and analysis of genes concerning the production and control of useful metabolites by the analysis of transcriptome and metabolome in the model plants, such as Arabidopsis and Medicago.
œ Construction of the integrated data base.
œ Profiling of metabolites in the biosynthetic pathway of target compounds in the practical plants, and profiling of gene expression required for production of useful compounds based on the establishment of resources such as EST, cDNA and DNA sequence information.
œ Identification of genes for production of useful compounds by comparative genomics using integrated data base in model and practical plants.
œ Construction of the regeneration and transformation systems in the practical plants.
œ Establishment of transgenic plants expressing structural and regulatory genes required for biosynthesis of industrial materials.
œ Introduce a gene or gene group concerning the production or the control of the target materials into the plant by the DNA recombination and it verifies the effect.
œ Development of DNA micro-array with high accuracy and quantitativeness to use for above-mentioned analysis and verification.
